Our School
Avalon School is a small community special school, providing learning for 60 secondary aged pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan. Avalon School is situated next to Brookside Academy in Street and serves the Mendip area of Somerset.
Avalon works closely with a number of partners including Strode College, Brookside Academy and Sen.se. Avalon School is Federated with Polden Bower School and the two schools work closely together. They share an Executive Headteacher.
Avalon has specialist facilities including sensory room, soft- play and therapy spaces which enable targeted support to be put in place for all students according to their individual needs.
We are focused on preparing our students for adult life and as such the curriculum and learning opportunities is focused on Preparing for Adulthood framework. We work hard with the local community to support our young people in work experience and to gain vital work skills to gain employment as an adult. We also work closely with the further education colleges to enable our students to move on to continue their learning when they leave Avalon.
We work closely with parents and carers, other stakeholders and professionals to ensure consistency and continuity in approach and to strive for excellent outcomes for our young people. We are committed to working in partnership with colleagues from across our local community, with the other special schools within Somerset and with mainstream schools.
